So often my daughter rolls her eyes and tunes out when I try and explain my frugal ways. She especially tunes out when it comes to clothing . It doesn't matter to her that many things can be found cheaper at a thrift store, garage sale or discount department store. She wants her Americ@n E@gle! Of course she is 17, and I am know I was the same way at that age (except for me it was Benetton and R@lph L@uren). Even now I am frugal in some areas so I can choose to splurge in others.
Yesterday I realized she IS listening and watching me. We went to the convenience store to buy some slushies. When we got there I was focused on trying to decide what flavour I wanted. It was my DD who asked if I wanted to share a slushie with her. She pointed out that a small slushie was $1.29 for 350ml, while a medium was $1.69 for 710ml. While I was trying to decide between flavours she had figured out that if we shared a medium we would get over twice as mush as a small for only 40¢ more.
We quickly agreed on a flavour and brought our treat home and divided it into 2 glasses. It tasted so much better because not only did I save 80¢, I realized my kids have been listening to all my frugal ramblings over the years.
I have just enjoyed reading many of your posts and find them most interesting! I will visit again.
ReplyDeleteAll my best to you,
